EM: a thriller and a clear affair
EM: a thriller and a clear affair
Team Germany started the Men's European Championship in Italy with two victories. In the midday heat of Kaltern am See, however, the selection of national coach Olaf Neuenfeld needed some start-up time, especially in the first match.
The serial world and European champion was quickly clearly behind with 0:2 sets against Switzerland. Without main attacker Patrick Thomas, the Germans often lacked the notorious attacking pressure. The Swiss around Calw legionnaire Raphael Schlattinger did much better: With 11:5 and 11:7 the first two sets went clearly to Switzerland. This is the forecast that bookmakers had the highest odds on the site Cricket Betting 10.
Then it happened as it has happened so often against the Swiss. The defending champions saved their game with the very last chance - and then left no stone unturned. Germany is trailing 1:4, equalizes at 6:6 and uses the second set point to 11:9. The Swiss react clearly hit and give away the fourth set almost without a fight with 2:11. In the decisive fifth section, the team of Nati coach Oli Lang is back - but it can no longer prevent the defeat. At 10:7, the German team had three match points - and used the third to win 11:9 and 3:2.
No problems with Italy
As expected, the following match against the European Championship host was much easier. Italy was only able to stand up to the German team for one set. The opening set went relatively narrowly to the big favorites with 11:9.
After that, the resistance of the Azzuri was broken. The German team had no problems at all in the following 11:4 and 11:3.
National coach Olaf Neuenfeld once again gave his entire squad playing time - with the exception of Patrick Thomas. Accordingly, the team should be well rested for the eagerly awaited clash with the Austrians in the early evening.
