AAMAS 15th Annual Conference

Join us in the “Mile High City”, Denver, Colorado, for our 15th annual conference, “New Heights in Medical Audit", April 30 - May 1, 2009. We have added more optional pre-conference workshops and expanded on medical audit education for the conference sessions. We are once again providing the 2 day accounting course which will meet the CMAS requirements. We will also have “Auditing 101” and “Advanced Auditing” for those who are new in the field of auditing or just want to sharpen their skills. Our workshops will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 28 and 29, 2009, prior to the conference. National Medicare RAC Summit

One of the most significant changes in the Medicare program recently has been the introduction of "recovery audit contacting" (RAC) as a way of assuring that proper payments are being made for Medicare services. In the new RAC model, contractors are incentivized with contingency fees to find and recoup improper overpayments to providers of Medicare services. (Providers of course benefit from the identification of underpayments as well, but these represent a very small part of the action.)

But concerns remain. Is the timetable too ambitious? Are the demands for records overwhelming? Are the contingent fees a proper incentive or could they provide a perverse incentive for "bounty hunting" and over-zealous auditing behavior? And is there enough oversight of the contractors themselves and enough transparency in the process? These and other issues will be explored in depth at the National Medicare RAC Summit on March 5-6, 2009 in Washington, DC, together with a pre-conference RAC "Boot Camp" and training program for those who want to take a deeper dive into the subject matter. Finally, the Summit will break new ground by permitting registrants to enjoy the complete Summit experience on line through both real-time and archived access to all Summit presentations.
